Background:
Established in 2005 in memory of John F. Pritchard Jr., co-founder of Habitat for Humanity Kansas City, Inc. following his death August 4, 2005. John and his wife Mary believed in the inherent worth of all human beings and that homeownership was fundamental to breaking the cycle of poverty for low income people. While Habitat for Humanity is a housing ministry its impact is to increase the capacity of people to improve their lives and those around them. What the Pritchards love most about Habitat are the lasting relationships that naturally develop between volunteers, donors, staff and partner families as they engage in the ministry of Habitat.

Purpose and Activities:
The fund extends the mission of Habitat for Humanity to make homeownership possible for low income families by supporting Habitat for Humanity staff, volunteers and families in three main areas: 1) scholarships for Habitat family members for specific educational objectives, 2) matching funds for volunteer and staff development, and 3) matching funds for Global Village experiences.

Scholarships and matching gifts.

Program areas:
1.  Scholarships for Adults:
Adult homeowners may apply for scholarships with specific educational objectives through accredited institutions offering job skill enhancement courses, degrees, certifications or other credentials that improve the person’s ability to grow their earning power and continue on their path of lifting themselves and their families out of poverty.

2.  Scholarships for Youth:
Children of Habitat homeowners, including any for whom the homeowner has legal guardianship, are eligible for up to two scholarships: 1) for one  summer camp experience prior to graduating from high school and 2) for one $500  scholarship for post-secondary education following receipt of high school diploma or  equivalent.

3.  Volunteer and Staff Development:
Matching funds are provided for educational activities  related to specific jobs and programs of Habitat for Humanity Kansas City.

4.  HFHI Global Village:
Matching funds are provided for periodic trips through Habitat for  Humanity International’s Global Village Program.
