Typical work week and day

The typical work week has our staff on the construction sites Tuesday - Saturday.  Occasionally there are days blocked for staff training and other events, and we will do our best to communicate those with you in advance.

Each morning the construction staff arrives at the office early to prepare for volunteers.  Volunteers are expected to check in at the Habitat KC office (on the SE corner of Linwood Blvd and the Paseo) at 8 am, complete any necessary paperwork, get name tags, and then be given work assignments.  We have several sites open on a given day, but can't guarantee a group can work on a particular house due to things like contractors, sponsor groups, inspections, and weather conditions. We appreciate all of our volunteers and thank you for the flexibility to work where you are most needed.

Lunch break usually occurs around 11:30, and lunch is on your own.  You are welcome to bring coolers/bag lunches (ice is available at our office) or go out to eat.  Please note that there is absolutely no alcohol permitted on the construction sites.  Water jugs are provided on each site, and we recommend bringing your own refillable water bottle to use throughout the day.

The typical construction day ends around 3 pm, but this varies based on the tasks for that day.  If your task is almost completed, you may be asked to stay and complete it.  Likewise, if you complete a task around 2:30, it makes sense to send you home earlier rather than start on something new for only a few minutes.  As long as the construction staff is notified, you are always welcome to leave when you need to.
