Cans for Habitat
Intro to Cans for Habitat KC Lists partner recycling centers and explains how the program works, including tips and statistics.

Cans for Habitat began as a national partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and the Aluminum Association.  After several years that partnership has now ended, but local affiliates like Habitat for Humanity Kansas City are keeping it going on a local level.  We see this program as a commitment to better environmental stewardship and as a way to involve people of all ages in the work that we do.  Anyone, any age can recycle and EVERY CAN makes a difference.  We figured out that if each person in the Kansas City metro recycles only 10 aluminum cans thru this program, we'll have enough money to build a new house for a family in need - that's all it takes!

Donating your cans is easy:

   - Bring them to the Habitat KC office during business hours, Tuesday - Saturday 8-4:30 (we have a dumpster in our parking lot but staff will need to unlock it).  Please note that we also have a dumpster to collect paper products (magazines, newspapers, junk mail, school/office paper, cereal boxes, etc. - just no phone books or corrugated cardboard)

   - Drop off your cans at one of our partner recycling centers in Kansas City. For information about how that works, where they are located, etc. please download the following PDF document.

Do you want to help us make this program a HUGE success?  Here are some opportunities to get involved:

  • We're looking for schools, churches, businesses, scout troops, families, etc. to collect aluminum cans for Habitat KC. We have bins and liners that you can have FREE to collect cans and then bring them to the collection site. Bins are about 3 feet tall, 2 feet wide and 1 foot deep (pictured left), made of sturdy cardboard, and have a lid with holes cut out as well as the Cans for Habitat logo and our local contact information. Just email our Outreach Coordinator with your information, how many bins you'd like, where and when you need them, etc. She can also help set up a service project or special event collection.
  • We're always looking for more partner recycling centers. If you know of one in your area that you'd like to see get on board, give us the information and we'll contact them!
