Will your congregation get involved?
Interfaith Build The Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities came together in 2007 to mobilize funds and volunteers to build a home for a Kansas City family. The "House of Abraham" will once again take place in 2009. This build will accomplish the following purposes: • Promote interfaith fellowship • Increase awareness and support of Habitat Kansas City in the faith community • Promote partnership between Habitat and the participating congregations • Build a home for a selected Kansas City family We all agree that every one who falls asleep at night deserves a roof above her head – a place to call home. Contact us if your congregation is interested in participating in the interfaith build.
Thrivent Builds Program Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in partnership with the Lutheran community has sponsored at lease one house for the last few years - 2 for 2008. Thrivent financial for Lutherans requires a 50% Lutheran volunteer participation on this build. We encourage Lutheran churches out there that would like top participate in the 2009 project to contact us.
Harmony: Harmony is a coalition of 7 churches that have been with Habitat KC for almost 20 years. Over the years, these committed congregations have sponsored and built 19 houses. In 2008, Harmony partnered with the Lutheran Churches in the Thrivent Builds program to build 2 homes. Harmony welcomes new congregations to help them keep going strong.
Christ Community Evangelical Free Church: For four years in a row, Christ Community has sponsored and led volunteers to build homes with Habitat KC. In 2008, they have partnered with Christian Fellowship Baptist Church and did a one month "modified blitz build." This church is one of Habitat’s strongest partners, and we look forward to working with them again in 2009.
If your church wants to challenge itself by considering sponsoring and building a house, please contact our faith relations department.
